Dr. Dedy Fauntleroy
Who we are:
Catherine Brown
Catherine Brown has been a public school educator since 1993. She began her career in New York City, as a co-founder of small, innovative high schools, then worked as a teacher, academic dean, assistant principal, and principal for Seattle Public Schools for decades. She spent 18 years working at Cleveland High School, a school whose transformational positive changes have been acknowledged by many, including the Seattle School Board, OSPI, the Center for Educational Effectiveness, Governor Inslee, the National Education Association, and most importantly, the students and families Cleveland serves.
Catherine has presented at local, state, and national conferences about school leadership, and was a 2012 recipient of the UCEA's Educational Leadership Award. In addition to her work as Principal/Founder of Just Schools Collaborative, LLC, Catherine is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Policy at the University of Washington.
Her areas of expertise include: amplifying student and family voice and power in school governance; designing school structures (schedules, budgets, etc.) that center racial and educational justice; implementing schoolwide, ubiquitous restorative practices; supporting project-based learning; recruiting and retaining educators of color; co-designing community learning walks involving youth, families, staff, and community partners.
Dr. Dedy Fauntleroy
Who we are:
Dr. Dedy Fauntleroy, affectionately known as Dr. Dedy (she/her) is currently an educational consultant with the Just Schools Collaborative and Dr. Dedy Consulting. Her school leadership experience includes: principal of Northgate Elementary, John Stanford Elementary, Loyal Heights Elementary and planning principal of Cedar Park Elementary in the Seattle Public Schools. In addition, she served as co-president of the Principal Association of Seattle Schools and in various leadership capacities at the Association of WA School Principals, on the Board of the Association of WA Student Leaders, and with the WA Office of Superintendent of Instruction regarding education during the COVID crisis.
Before becoming a building leader, Dr. Dedy taught grades 2nd-8th and was an instructional coach. On the national stage, she was a consultant for the Council of Great City Schools, a guest consultant to the Secretary of Education, and Senator Patty Murray.
Dr. Dedy is an alumnae of Smith College, earned her Master of Education from the University of La Verne, principal certificate from the University of WA Danforth Educational Leadership Program, and her Doctorate of Education from the University of WA Leadership for Learning program.
